We discussed the attached this morning.
I expressed the view that the question of re-consideration by ECGD did not rest solely on political considerations; it must surely be of considerable économie importance for this country that Costains rather than a French firm should secure the contract.
3.
You explained that Lord Brown believed that ECGD would have an opportunity to re-consider after we knew the French decision. If that decision were favourable
we should be on much stronger ground in urging re-consideration by ECGD on commercial grounds. If it were unfavourable
the only grounds for re-consideration would be the economic ones referred to above.
4.
We agreed that we must await a written expression
of Lord Brown's views.
