With reference to our telephone conversation today, I am enclosing a draft press release which it is proposed to issue tomorrow morning, subject to receipt of a telegram from D.I.S., Hong Kong, confirming that the announcement has been made of the date from which the new immigration controls will operate.
The remarks attributed to a Hong Kong Government "spokesman" have been taken direct from statements made in the Hong Kong Legislative Council by the Colonial Secretary.
If you have any comments on the draft, I shall be grateful to receive them today. Otherwise, I shall issue the release via U.N.S. and Press Association as early as possible tomorrow morning after I have received Stevenson's telegram.
