Magistrate T, J. Van Rees in Central Court jailed the men for two to three months when they claimed they were "innocent" and would not pay fines.

The men, who were wearing Mao badges, remained silent when the prison sentences were imposed on them.

A platoon of uniformed police was then instructed to search the men and all money found in their possession ($123.25) was confiscated,

All the men admitted they went on strike during the 1967 disturbances and said

they were still on strike.

They claimed they had undergone negotiations for reinstatement with Mr. Roy Spencer, Secretary of the Waterworks Department, between April, 1968 and June this year.
