PERSONAL & CONFIDENTIAL

2.

Court judge, the position might be different but I understand that this would be too difficult to arrange.

Do you think you could give me any indication as to the possibility of a suitable candidate from amongst the members of the service elsewhere before deciding what recommendation to make? Apart from Hammett, it has occurred to us that one of the Judges at present still serving in other dependent, or indeed recently independent, territories such as perhaps one of those on the East African Court of Appeal, might be of a suitable age (i.e. about 55-56 years) and might be interested.

I may add that I have considered the possibility of recommending Roberts but I think it is too early to offer him this promotion after so short a tenure as Attorney General.

Since drafting the above, I have received Carter's letter of 11th July, which confirms that a High Court judge would not be a possibility. As I have said, I would prefer not to pursue the QC idea.

Yours ever

Krunch.
