I am sorry that I have not been able to send you an earlier reply to your letter of 8 August regarding your call on Princess Alexandra.
We have now learnt that Her Royal Highness would be very pleased to see you on 25 November and has enquired whether it would be convenient for you to go to Thatched House Lodge, Richmond Park, from 12.15 to 12.45 p.m. for a drink. I enclose a map showing exactly where Thatched House Lodge is situated in Richmond Park. The Princess has also said that she would be delighted if your wife accompanied you.
I should be grateful if you would let me know as soon as possible whether the time and date mentioned above would be convenient for you and whether your wife will be accom- panying you.
As regards your suggestion that you should call on the Protocol Department, they would be very pleased to see you at any time. Perhaps you would let me know when it would be most convenient for you to see them. This rather depends on your own movements and arrangements. If you were to call on them on the morning of 25 November, you would need to allow a good hour thereafter in which to get out to Richmond Park and for this reason it might be better if you saw them on another day. The Protocol Department is situated in Charles House, 5-11 Lower Regent Street, S.W.1. Perhaps you would let me know your feelings on this score.
In case you wish to telephone me, my number if Whitehall 8440, Ext. 171.
