Year Michael,

I think you know that after protracted thought about

a form of overt recognition for the work of this Force and the Auxiliaries during 1967, a proposal was made to London by the Governor that permission should be sought for the titles of both forces to carry the prefix "Royal" and for the appointment of a member of the Royal Family as honorary Commandant General; the matter is set out in Sir David's letter CR L/M 230/67 of 2nd Septem- ber, 1968 to Bunny Carter.

I understand that during the Governor's leave the feeling developed in London that the grant of any such awards should be tied in with the visit of our Bands to the United Kingdom, which was then contemplated.

A Band Tour to the United Kingdom is now, of course, post- poned until 1971 at least (my letter (21) in C.P. 16/11 of 11th December, 1968). His Excellency has therefore instructed me to approach you to establish whether the "recognition" proposals con- tained in his letter of 2nd September, 1958 could now be set in motion again, independently of the Band Tour.

If so, can you arrange this, or how do you suggest we should proceed?
