You wrote to me on 5 February
about the further letter which
Lieutenant Commander Lynch Maydon sent
to the Prime Minister about the title
of the Hong Kong Police.
I am at last, happy to be able to
some report progress. Yesterday We sent
dave
a submission to the Palace asking if
Her Majesty's wishes on the following
proposals could be informally
ascertained:
(a) that the Hong Kong Police
and auxiliary Police Forces
should be accorded the
prefix "Royal" in their
titles. This was coupled
with the proposal
(b) that a member of the Royal
Family should be approached
to accept the appointment
in an honorary capacity of
"Commandant General" of
the two Forces.
