The Police Forces of the British Virgin Islands,

Monserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands and St. Vincent, were all accorded the title "Royal" following Her Majesty's

visit to the Caribbean in 1966.

The liong Kong Police Force was formed in 1841 end the Auxiliary Polic & Force was formed in 1914 as the Police

Reserve:

No reason is seen why anyone should take exception to what is a well-deserved tribute to a distinguished record

extending over a century and a quarter.

The conduct of the Hong Kong Police during the 1967

disturbances was exemplary: they showed outstanding discipline and restraint in the face of extreme provocation. And this opinion of their behaviour was widely reflected in Press comment at the height of the

disturbances.

Ten members of the Police Force were killed and 212

members were injured during the disturbances in 1957.

Seventeen persons were killed and 43 persons were injured as a result of the use of firearms by the Police

during the same period.

Total casualties among members of the public were 39 killed and 585 injured; many of t ese were the result

of terrorist bomb attacks.

All allegations of Police violence upon persons in their custoây during the disturbances of 1967 were immediately and fully investigated. On one occasion such an investigation led to the prosecution and conviction of three Police Officers on charges of manslaughter. The convictions were, however, all quashed on appeal,
