Following Her Majesty The Queen's gracious approval that the title "Royal" be accorded to the Hong Kong Police and Auxiliary Police Forces and Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra's acceptance of the invitation to become honorary "Commandant General" of both forces, announcements were made simultaneously in London and Hong Kong on 17 April.

The Commissioner of Police and the Commandant of the Auxiliary Police Force have asked that the following message be conveyed to Her Majesty and to Her Royal Highness;

"We are deeply conscious of the signal honour that has been conferred upon the Hong Kong Police Force and the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force by Her Majesty's gracious act în according to both forces the title Royal, and by the acceptance by H.R.H. Princess Alexandra of the appointment, in an honorary capacity, of Commandant General of both forces.

On behalf of the officers and men of both forces we respect- fully tender to Her Majesty and to Her Royal Highness an expression of our humble duty and our most grateful thanks for these marks of distinction which will be for both forces a source of great encouragement and pride to all ranks"

3. I am writing in similar terms to Buckingham Palace.
