QUEEN HONOURS HONG KONG POLICE
17th April, 1969.
The Hong Kong Police Force and the Auxiliary Police Force
have been given the title "Royal" by Her Majesty the Queen.
Mr. Harold Wilson, the Prime Minister, announced the queen's
approval of this honour in the House of Commons today (Wednesday).
In addition, Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra has agreed to accept, in an honorary capacity, the appointment of
Commandant-General of the two Forces.
The Commissioner of Police and the Commandant of the Hong
Kong Auxiliary Police have sent the following message to the Secretary
of State and asked that it be conveyed to Her Majesty the Queen and
Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra:

We are deeply conscious of the signal honour
that has been conferred upon the Hong Kong Police
Force and the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police by Her Majesty's gracious act in according to both Forces
the title "Royal" and by the acceptance by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of the appointment in an honorary capacity of Commandant-General of both Forces.
On behalf of the officers and men of both
Forces we respectfully tender to Her Majesty and Her Royal Highness an expression of our humble
duty and our most grateful thanks for these
marks of distinction which will be for both
Forces a source of great encouragement and pride
to all ranks:
