HKK 14/4

23 December, 1968.

Thank you for your letter of 3 December concerning the current proposals for legislation in respect of Chinese marriages in Hong Kong. I am sorry you have not had an earlier reply; but, as you may know, I have only recently returned from a visit to Nigeria.

In your letter you said that you have no informa- tion whatsoever as to the nature of any draft legislation the Hong Kong Government may be contemplating, beyond the proposals made public in reports and White Papers over several years. In the circumstances I think that you should seek to promote your Association's views with the appropriate Government departments in Hong Kong, to whom you have no doubt sent copies of your interesting report. I am confident that when legislation has been drafted and submitted, as it will be, to this office, it will reflect the years of careful study and consultation with representatives of organs of public opinion which it will have received.

RFF.
