unsuccessfully prosecuted for corruption and subsequently re-

signed. This information regarding Hardy's case was likewise

passed to Tisdall.

Whilst unemployed in 1966, Ellis is believed to have

obtained financial assistance from Mrs. Elliott in return for

photographs of alleged gambling and opium divans for onward

transmission to the visiting M.P.'s (see paragraph 6 of paper),

to substantiate her allegations of police corruption.

Ellis left the Colony for the U.K. on 23rd October,

Shortly after his arrival in U.K. he married and now lives

at Flat 15, 65, Ladbroke Grove, London, W.11. From London he

has written to the English language press in Hong Kong on several

occasions attacking the Government for his 'unreasonable dismis-

sal' and pressing for an enquiry into the matter. Ellis was

concerned with the Granada T.V. team which in March, 1969, pro-

duced in Hong Kong a film entitled 'A Case to Answer'. This

film which was released in U.K. and Hong Kong and presented a

biased and exaggerated account of police corruption, and his

version of his leaving the Force.

Ellis has made it known discreetly that he intends to

visit Hong Kong in September, 1969, with his wife.
