to subvert the public's faith in
Government by a constant barrage of
anti-Government propaganda;
to increase pride of race (nationalism)
amongst the Chinese population of Hong Kong by eulogising the achievements of
China and her people;
to exploit xenophobia by constantly
denigrating non-Chinese actions,
equipment and techniques;
to maintain faith in the magic of MAO-ism;
and
(g)
to support any current campaign of the
local communist movement such as the
re-employment of "strikers", the release
of confrontation prisoners/detainees, etc.
Conclusions.

It
Despite setbacks, the nine communist newspapers
still represent a powerful propaganda machine. However, if any propaganda organisation is to be effective it
must have credibility and the communist propagandists
did much to injure their own image by their wild
statements and blatantly false allegations last year.
may, therefore, take some time for them to recapture the
faith of the public; despite directions from China to
improve the standard of accuracy of their reporting they
seem incapable of putting out a straight story without
embellishment even when it would be in their interests
to do so.
