Tai Mo Shan (No 117 Signals Unit)

29. A FPS-91A search radar with its associated FPS-6 height finder is situated on Tai Mo Shan, the highest point in the new territories. The Unit's primary task is to provide information for intelligence purposes on aircraft flying over the Chinese mainland. The radar picture is also relayed to Kai Tak Airport and is used for long range surveillance of civil air- craft approaching or leaving the Colony. The current establishment of RAF personnel at Tai Mo Shan is:

The Deputy Command Secretary, Far East Land Forces, Hong Kong, chairs a Joint Co-ordinating Committee comprising representatives of the Ministries of Defence and Public Building and Works to ensure uniformity in the pay and conditions of service of locally entered civilians.
