The main tasks of RAF Kai Tak are:

a.

The control, co-ordination and supervision of the activities of subordinate units and detachments.

b. The provision of facilities for:

(1) The operation and training of resident aircraft and certain facilities for other military aircraft.

(2) The staging post for transport aircraft on scheduled and special flights.

(3) The base support for operations and training of Air Support Command aircraft, detachments of FEAF aircraft and naval aircraft when shore based.

Operational control during specific oper- ations for exercises when so ordered by HQ FEAF.

d. Air traffic control liaison with the Directorate of Civil Aviation, Hong Kong.

Airfield facilities are afforded by Hong Kong International Airport and civil contracts cover Air Support Command VC 10 passenger handling, turnround inspections and minor rectifications (except radio). Reinforcement personnel are provided as required in support of contingency plans and major_exercises. A Flight of the RAF Regiment from RAF Tengah is presently attached.
