I: What use will these Gurkhas be to Hong Kong; we already have between
9,000 and 10,000 troops here. What's an additional 700 going to make ?
W:
One of the most inportant functions of the infantry in Hong Kong is support of the Police in riot situations; and certainly another battalion
will be a great help to us in this kind of situation.
I: So far we have only been talking about Gurkhas. What about other troops
when the pullout comes by 1971 from Singapore ?
W:
As far as we can forsee at the moment there is likely to be no change at all with the rest of the garrison.
