TET/10(14)
2
16th June, 1969
TETOC has it in mind to sponsor a visit by John Marsh which could involve several days in India, where he wants to follow up talks mainly with the AIMA, and in Hong Kong, where both he and we feel there is much he could do particularly in the sphere of middle-level manage- mant (see for example reports of recent visits by Gordon Watts and Norsan Hunt), an ultimate objective for his visit being the CIOS Confer- ence in Tokyo early in November. I attach a copy of the letter he wrote to me at the end of April, since when I have been consulting our Chairman and making one or two other contacts.
I understand Marsh has himself written to Sir Morrice James, whom he knows quite well, and received a reply indicating that his visit would be welcome, but you will obviously want to follow this up with something more official if you agree that the visit would be useful and if there is no objection to TETOC sponsoring it from the Counoil's own travel funds.
Marsh has of course made similar visits in the past, but thay have been on the COI network. There would however remain some of the same purposos, including the giving of talks on topics which he suggests might include the following:
(1) Progress Report on Britain's Managerial Revolution
(2) Management Education and Development:
(3)
by Industry and Commerce
The Developing Management Movement:
a Crucial Investment
General and Specialist
Managers, Management Consultants, Hanagement Educators, Management Institutes.
For the rest, there could be useful services he might render in connection with the AIMA and IKA themselves, and by way of follow-up to some of the possibilities noted by Norman Hunt, all of which would be open to discussion between himself, your department and TETOC.
(a)
Marsh has stated that the AIMA wants him to
advise then on the objectives and operations of the AIMA and its
affiliated organisations;
(b) run one or two director-level meetings for them on some mamgomant
subjects; and
(c) make contact with the appropriate management department at one or two
universities.
