Visit to Hong Kong of Mr. J. Marsh, Director-General
British Institute of Management
You may have noted from an exchange of telegrams
with the ODM that John Marsh will be visiting Hong Kong
between the 28th and 31st October following a visit to
India sponsored by the Council for Technical Education
and Training for Overseas Countries and before proceeding
to Japan for a meeting of CIOS. For ease of reference,
I enclose a copy of the telegram and of the Hong Kong
reply.
I am writing to follow this up more personally
because there is a doubt, certainly in Marsh's mind,
not allayed by a recent letter from the Hong Kong
Management Association asking him who is organising
his programme, as to whether he will in fact meet with
any central co-ordination, and there is also the hope,
again on his part but also on the part of TETOC, that
he can be of assistance to the Hong Kong Government in
some way or other can undertake some useful exchange
of information or views with a senior official or

officials, or that he mighty participate in some public
function for the purpose of a lecture or discussion in
which he can put across modern management ideas.
Marsh has in fact already been involved in
discussions, organised by TETOC, with P.Y. Tang on the
ways in which TETOC generally and the BIM in the field
of management education might be able to assist the
projected Polytechnic. Marsh has accepted an invitation
to attend a meeting of the Polytechnic Planning Committee
on Wednesday, 29th October. He will also be visiting
