Commercial Counsellor yesterday gave a copy of the statement by the President of the Board of Trade to De Geer, senior official in Economic Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who has been concerned with textile matters and in particular the negotiations with Hong Kong. It was not surprising that he showed special interest in the inclusion of Hong Kong among the countries of the Commonwealth preference area to which the new duties will apply. Commercial Counsellor stressed the point in paragraph 4 of your telegram. De Geer took note of this but pointed out that the proportion of imports to total domestic consumption of cotton textiles in Sweden was higher than in the United Kingdom. He expressed satisfaction that the new duties would not be extended to EFTA countries,
