Problem
As a result of a study undertaken over the past few years,
the fextile Council hapo made a number of recommendations to
increase the productivity and efficiency of the cotton and
allica textiles industry. Their proposals involve action by
both government and industry. The former include a proposal
for a tarife of 85% of the n.f.n. rate on cotton textilo
importe from Commonwealth countxtos. The Committee on
Commercial Policy discussed the problem last week and agreed
that it should be considered by Cabinet this week. In
C(69)79 the President of the Board of Trado recommendo tho
substitution of the tarifs for the prosent quota arrangements.
He also makes certain other proposals with regard to financial
assistance to the industby.
