5. The man that Leylands have temporarily put here to carry out their "soft-sell" campaign is working hard. Either I or my colleagues have given lunches etc. for him to meet local politicians and Government transport men, and his efforts seem to be bearing fruit. There is even talk of Mr. Louey being given a trip to England by Daimlers next month.

6. On Hong Kong Island the China Motor Bus Co. is a different class of operation. It is well run and administered, and there is no suggestion that they want to break their British connection. But I am of course in touch with them.

In addition to the Japanese, the Germans are now in town in the shape of a Mercedes team advocating their "stand-easy" buses. They do not seem to find much support at present.

On rereading the above I ought perhaps to make it clear that, so far, there has been no suggestion that the Kowloon Motor Bus Company are going to buy double deck buses from anywhere except the United Kingdom, The Japanese and Germans are trying to sell single deck buses, a type which forms about half the K.M.B. fleet.
