Mr. Joidan welcomed Baron de Geer and his colleagues and hoped that these consultations would not take too much of the Baron's time as he was already heavily involved in U.N.C.T.A.D. Mr. Jordan added that as the Swedish Industrial Advisers were already present the two sides should proceed to look at the figures in support of the Swedish requests.

After thanking Mr. Jordan for his words of welcome and adding his own preliminary courtesies, Baron de Geer asked Mr. Strandberg to go over the figures for knitwear.

Knitted woollen sweaters, etc.
Mr. Strandberg first recited the figures for Swedish Tariff Item No. 60.05.430 knitted sweaters, etc., as set out in the tables previously forwarded to Hong Kong. He then presented new tables on Swedish imports, production and exports of all sweaters, etc., under the Swedish Tariff No. 60.05.30. He added that imports from Hong Kong represented 11% and 25% of total imports in 1967 and 1968 respectively.

Mr. Jordan stated that he was not questioning that imports were increasing and production was declining, but whether the decline in production was due to imports and, in particular, to imports from Hong Kong. He noted that the marked decline in production showed
