DRAFT TELEGRAM TO HONG KONG
to be repeated to Stockholm and
copied to Hong Kong Government London Office.
Your telegram No. 2293: Hong Kong Textile Exports to Sweden.
Shorkel
We agree that Jordan may go to Stockholm for exploratory
discussions on 3rd January on the basis proposed in your
telegram under reference.
Our strong preference for the venue for consultations
would be London; this would meet the Swedes desire to avoid
going to Hong Kong while enabling us to participate in the
consultations. This we are anxious to do since there are
important matters raised by the Swedish request as was the
case in the previous consultations last summer which were
held in London.
Before the consultations take place, we shall in any
case be able to consider the Swedish request for further
restraints on the textiles in question on the basis ofmore
detailed information and justification than is given in
Stockholm telegram No.19 to you. We hope that Jordan will,
during his visit, urge the Swedes to provide the relevant.
statistics so that we have something on which to form a view.
