*This import classification, which was introduced in 1969 (polyester/cotton

shirts not being separately recorded in earlier years) covers polyester/cotton blends of 1 94% cotton (and therefore by implication 6 - 99% polyester). These import figures therefore include consignments which fall outside the polyester/cotton shirt quotas, which in the case of Hong Kong covers blends in which polyester predominated, and in the case of Japan blends in which 50% or more is synthetic.
