Hong Kong:

Textiles

The Permanent Secretary to the Board of Trade's meeting with Mr. Jordan and Mr. Jones from Hong Kong at 4.20 on 28th August, which I recorded in my minute of 29th August to you, was resumed in the evening of 29th August.

2.

Mr. Jordan said that he thought that the attached agreed text would be agreeable to the Governor of Hong Kong for a statement to be communicated this week to the Textile Advisory Board (but not published).

An earlier draft of the second sentence of paragraph 6 of the statement had read

3.

"...

so far as the negotiations on 22nd September with Canada are concerned

...

11

The omission of the date was agreed on the understanding that no earlier date could be arranged without agreement with the Board of Trade this week. The Secretary said that he would examine personally and urgently how the number of problems which have to be settled before the negotiations can be reduced to a minimum, and so whether it is possible to advance the date from 22nd September.
