Canadian Textile Negotiations.

We are concerned to find how far matters have

gone. Frankly we should have preferred a post-

ponement of these negotiations although we have never contemplated refusing to consult. However from Ottawa telegram No.87 and your telegram M.257 we see

that it would be very difficult to suggest post- ponement to Canadians now. We therefore accept that. 18 or 19 August will be the occasion.

We shall be glad to receive details of Canadian case as soon as possible. We note that your present

information is limited but we had understood main

purpose of your visit to Ottawa in June was to obtain full statistical picture. We should also be glad of details of significant build up in export of polyester/polynosic shirts to which you refer in paragraph 3. We had the impression from Jordan's

reference to this trade when here in June that trade

was not so significant.

We had not disregarded telegrams to which you refer in paragraph 4 and we certainly appreciate problems raised in your paragraph 5.
