UNCLASSIFIED ECO 20/7

6 May, 1969.

Dear Department,

Please refer to your letter EIC 715/2 dated 11 April

about U.A.R. Consular endorsement fees.

No

Our appraoch to the United Arab Republic authorities was simply to obtain a list of Consular fees charged. representations were made on behalf of Hong Kong nor, in fact, was any mention made of the reason for our seeking a copy of the list. With regard to item 2(c) in your letter we have enquired and been informed that legislation is being introduced to reduce fees but they will still be charged on an ad valorem basis. The draft has not yet received the approval of the National Assembly but we will keep you informed of progress.

Yours ever,
