Dear Commercial Department,

COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY DEPARTMENT.
FIRE BRIGADE BUILDING,
HONG KONG
15th July,

Thank you for your letter reference ECO 20/7 of 17th June regarding U.A.R. Consular endorsements on Certificates of Origin and commercial documents.
2.
We were pleased to note that as intimated by the representative of the United Arab Republic at the G.A.T.T. Committee on Trade in Industrial Products held in March, 1969, the new Decree has abolished the ad valorem basis of charging such fees. Since the new fixed rate is, however, higher than the minimum fixed rate formerly charged, this will no doubt continue to have a rather inhibiting effect on our trade involving small consignments of goods.
