We got a cordial reception, although obviously
not a very willing consideration of the subject. I think it

We made it quite clear that the subject would not
go away; that it had to be brought to a solution some way

QUESTION: Mr. Secretary, on the non-tariff barriers
you suggested there would be a bilateral exchange of lists
which you had. What about the other countries? Is there
a plan for a multilateral negotiation on this?-
SECRETARY STANS: At the present time, the GATT
21 organization in Geneva is pulling together lists of known
non-tariff barriers in all the countries. These are based

upon representations made by the exporting countries of the
varriers that they are finding in countries that they are
trying to deal with.
