Now, any questions?

QUESTION: Sir, would you elaborate a little bit

on the countries that you mentioned are ready to sit down

and discuss further with us?

You said in the case of the Far East if not right

now we think the same thing is likely to be true in the

7

future. Could you indicate what countries?

8

9

10

as we said we did not negotiate.

11

12

SECRETARY STANS: I am not willing to name the

countries at this stage. The fact is that in each country

We had a thorough dis-

cussion, very friendly discussions about the problem and

left it with them to consider.

14

15

16

13

Communications are continuing through diplomatic

channels and we are getting messages back from the Embassies

on these discussions.

As I have indicated there are several countries

17

in Europe that we believe are now ready to meet with us for

18

the purpose of a negotiation and we think that there will

19

20

be some in the Far East, but I am not in a position to name

them at this time. I think it would be premature.

QUESTION:

You still expect to have the meeting

21

in Geneva then this Summer?

22

SECRETARY STANS: We have been forced to the

23

24

25

conclusion that we cant adhere to the time table that we

had originally set. We had hoped to have a meeting in June.
