1.5 per cent of United Kingdon consumption of
woven cotton and man-made fibre cloth. Imports of garments rose nearly 50 per cent and the increase in absolute terms was almost the same as the increase
in United Kingdom exports to the United States. These imports are mostly at the cxpense of the domestic industry, particularly towels and cotton trousers. Indeed, in the case of trousers,
United Kingdom imports from the United States amount
2
on a per capital basis to one half of United States imports from the whole world. This is no doubt good
for employment in Kansas City.
