Report of Embassy talks with Italians prior to Stans visit
Italians would, according to Rossi Longhi, of MFA, "flatly reject the idea of GATT conference". Italian Textile Industry in great difficulties, and recent riots at Battipaglia made it a particularly bad time to take anything but a firm line.
