Mr. Stans Visit to Hong Kong

Your minute of 2nd May suggesta that the draft Submission on this subject requires re-examination in the light of Hong Kong Telcgram No.339.

2. I agree that Hong Kong's attitude is somewhat surprising, particularly with respect to Anoraks, and that we should probably.. have to send a stiff reply to Hong Kong, when we have studied the figures in the note which Miss Welch is preparing.

3. However, I did not take the view that anything had to be added to the point already made in the Submission to the effect that we would have to try to stiffen Hong Kong's general attitude.

4. Since time was pressing the Submission has gone forward taking account of all the comments which I received, including your minute of April 29th and Mr. Goldsmith's of 30th April.
