United States next week to discuss international financial

questions generally, when no doubt these matters and the

importance of early introduction of the Special Deposits

scheme would be discussed.

Export of Investment Canital from U.S.

Mr. Stans mentioned the recent steps that the United

States Administration had taken to relax control over

funds for investments overseas. He was anxious to do

what he could in this respect, but progress would have to

be measured.

The Prime Minister said that the United Kingdom

Government had always made it clear that it welcomed

American investment in this country, when this brought

new technology and improved management to British industry.

He referred specifically to investment in the North Sea

Gas developments. If, however, the new investment was

contrary to British interests, then we had powers which

we could use to discourage it.
