3(1)
How does the British Government conceive the European
attitude to external trade? In particular, with what
qualifications would it accept the external tariff wall
of the Common Market?
A. So far as tariffs are concerned, we shall be prepared to accept the Common External Tariff as it will stand
after the Kennedy Round reductions have been made. We
shall of course also need to discuss how our tariff
structure will be adjusted to that of the Community within a transitional period.
