Miyazaki (Permanent Delegation) emphasised the difficulties of smell industries and agriculture in Japan the proximity of some of the most advanced developing countries (he appeared to regard Korea and Taiwan as potentially even more dangerous then Hong Kong. and Japan's concern about competition for her exports in third markets. Though the Japanese exceptions list had been dram up on the assumption that preferences would be given only to the UNCTAD Group of "77", Japan had come to no decision on beneficiary countries and was ready to discuss this. When general disappointment was expressed by other delegations about the cxtent of the exceptions in the Japanese list, Miyazaki said that only in compelling cases, of which they had none in mind at present, would additional highly competitive products from specific beneficiary countries be excluded emphasised again that Japan would find it difficult to make
