slightly higher price than the one applicable to our own purchases.
4) The average price of 70/-d., is identical
with that applicable to our other exports to over forty countries in Europe and overseas and has not, in the past, been queried by any Government which is part of GATT.
5) We export a considerable quantity of men's
knitwear to Austria. This is mainly of a finer gauge ir shetland and lambswool and the question of anti-dumping duty has not, as far as we know, arisen in respect of this mer- chandize. The pullovers supplied to Moden Landa are of a heavy gauge, i.e. a rather more expensive type of merchandize and we find it strange that the regulations should be invoked in this case. Could it be that the Austrian authorities are trying to protect their own industries in this somewhat question- able way?
In the circumstances, we should be very interested to hear what is the Board's attitude in this matter and whether you feel that this question should be taken up with the Austrian authorities.
Yours faithfully,
MARKS AND SPENCER LIMITED
