CATHAY PACIFIC AIRWAYS John Swire & Sons, which, with Associations, controls Cathay Pacific Airways, have assumed control of Bahamas Airways Ltd., a subsidiary of B.O.A.C.
The Associates of John Swire & Sons in this venture are the P. & O. Steam Navigation Company and Ocean Steamship Company. B.O.A.C. are retaining a 15% share.

AIRCRAFT MOVEMENTS There were a total of 62,350 aircraft movements at Kai Tak last year, an increase of 28.65%. Cargo exports came to 27,531,8 metric tons, 18.3% up.
BLUE FUNNEL From January 1st Blue Funnel will introduce a new schedule for its Far Eastern Service which will reduce transit time to Hong Kong by four days.
U.S. INVESTMENTS IN HONG KONG A survey recently carried out by the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong revealed that private U.S. investment in the Colony totals US$134 millions and that existing companies have plans to invest a further $54 millions in the near future. Of the total, petroleum companies account for $70 million, merchant companies $19.26 million, manufacturing $17.70 million and hotels and tourism $15.86 million
MICRO-CIRCUITS Sylvania Far East Ltd is planning to set up a new division in its Hong Kong plant to produce micro-circuits. The plant already produces T.V. sets, 80% of which are exported to the U.S.A.
The Hong Kong content of these T.V. sets has been steadily increasing and now includes transistors, capacitors, tuners and plastic housings.
NEW U.S. VENTURE Plough Inc. a Memphis based manufacturer of drugs, cosmetics and household articles, has announced the formation in Hong Kong of a joint venture with Chiu Holdings (Hong Kong) Ltd for the manufacture and distribution of its products throughout the Far East.
ITALIAN TIE-UP WITH HONG KONG? The President of the Pirelli Superga Rubber Factory of Turin, was in Hong Kong in December in search of possible associates to manufacture shoes in the Colony.
The Pirelli Group has an annual turnover of £50 million and produces full range of higher priced footwear from rubber soled slippers to kree high fashion boots.

C.M.A. EXHIBITION The annual exhibition of Hong Kong products organised by the Chinese Manufacturers Association opened on December 3rd and is due to close on January 6th.
TESTING SERVICE IN HONG KONG The Federation of Hong Kong Industries is now in process of setting up an electrical testing section, in addition to the textile, chemical and watch testing facilities which already exist. Importers are encouraged to make use of these testing services for their purchases from Hong Kong.
