"electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances (largely
transistor radios and electronic parts)" accounted for
9% of all Hong Kong exports in the year 1968 reaching a
total figure of HK$772,000,000.00 and showing a 31% in-
crease over the previous year. These figures indicate
the importance of the electronic industry to Hong Kong's
economy and the necessity for Hong Kong to remain compe-
titive with its rivals in South East Asia.

Attachment No.III to this Memorandum sets out
the relevant legislation in Singapore and attention is
particularly drawn to the fact that two major United
States manufacturers who have decided to manufacture
in Singapore have been granted waivers permitting night
work by the Minister of Labour.

Attachment No.IV to this Memorandum sets out
the relevant legislation in South Korea where, as men-
tioned in paragraph 9 above, the Company's subsidiary,
Fairchild Semikor Limited, has received authorisation
for night work for female labour and currently employs
over 500 women on the night shift commencing at 2200 hours
and ending at 0555 hours.

Attachment No.V to this Memorandum sets out the
results of a survey of State Labour Codes in the United
States relating to the employment of female labour at night.
It will be seen therefrom that in no State is there an
