the purposes of the present plans, the "sensitive zone" should be treated as part of the "Walled City". At least the tacit acquiescence of the C.P.G. would probably be required to any proposed clearance of the Walled City.

Clearance Outside the Walled City the "Nunnery Site" Development Plan.

The revised development plan for the "Nunnery Site" Resettlement Estate (Architectural Office Drawing No. A/31141) provides for the clearance and redevelopment of squatter areas adjoining the Kowloon Walled City with a maximum provision of shops and market stalls. The Plan envisages clearance and redevelopment in four areas,

i.e. :

Area 'A' adjoining the western boundary of the Walled City between Tung Tau Tsuen Road to the north, Carpenter Road to the south and Junction Road to the west, The development plan provides, inter alia, for the construction of four domestic resettlement blocks with shops above and/or below each block, an additional arcade of shops and two markets with a total of 88 stalls

At present this area consists of a mixture of huts, scrap dumps and paddy.

Area 'B' adjoining the southern boundary of the Walled City between Area 'A' to the west, Carpenter Road to the south and Tung Tsing Road to the east. The plan provides, inter alia, for the construction of five domestic resettlement blocks with shops in each and two vegetable markets with a total of 72 stalls.

At present this area consists of domestic structures and shops closely packed together.

Area 'C' between Carpenter Road and Tung Tsing Road south-east of the Walled City. The plan provides for the construction of a 12-storey domestic resettlement block with shops, a market area and an estate school.

This is at present a cleared area with parking areas and yards.

The

Area 'D' to the north of Tung Tau Tsuen Road. plan provides for the construction of 6 four-storey domestic resettlement blocks, each having 2-storeys of shops, with services and a vegetable market.

At present this is a cottage estate.

Road Widening Plans.

In addition to clearance and redevelopment, two separate plans exist for the widening of Tung Tau Tsuen Road and of Carpenter Road as part of an essential road improvement scheme to relieve Kowloon City Roundabout. Widening Carpenter Road involves clearance of part of the area included in the
