I am delighted to be back in Hong Kong
and to be your guest tonight, especially as it has given me the opportunity to meet so many
old friends.
My visit forms part of a continuing contact between the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Hong Kong. There is between us a
constant exchange of views and ideas.

We for our part, both Ministers and
officials, try to make as many visits here as
possible. And we know that many of you like to
come to London, and that, when you are there, you
take the opportunity to let us know how your thoughts
are running.

This week I am seeing something of what
further is being done in the fields of education, housing and other developments which have so dramatically changed the face of Hong Kong over
recent years.
Already I have seen something of these developments and the problems. I shall also
be having detailed discussions with the Governor, Members of both Executive and Legislative Councils,
Urban Council, and other bodies who have views which they wish to express to me.
