Visit of the Secretary of State to Canada
and New York

We do not seem to
be concerned.
The Secretary of State will be making an official visit to Canada from 13 to 17 September as the guest of the Canadian Government. He will then fly to New York to attend the forthcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, returning to London on 24 September. While he is in New York Mr. Stewart may make a brief one day visit to Washington.
2. Mr. Stewart will be making two major speeches during his visit: in Toronto on 16 September to the Empire Club of Canada and the Canadian Club of Toronto; and to the General Assembly in New York on the morning of 22 September.
r. de Courcy Ireland and Miss Warburton respectively are co-ordinating drafts for these two speeches which should reach the Private Office by 5 September.

3. In Canada Mr. Stewart will have a wide ranging session of talks with Mr. Sharp, and will call on Mr. Trudeau. New York he will call on U Thant and have bilateral discussions with a number of Foreign Ministers. Briefs will be required on the following subjects:
