The influential Far Eastern Economic
Review proposes to publish a supplement on
September 25 on Britain in Asia, which will
examine the current period of transition to a
promising economic and business partnership.
They have asked, through the High Commission,
whether a senior British Cabinet Minister
(preferably the Prime Minister, the Foreign and
Commonwealth Secretary, the President of the Board
of Trade, or the Minister of Defence) would
contribute a 600-word introduction; outlining
Britain's role in the region, to the supplement.

"Commissioner, which we endorse; and we consider
the request important enough to ask you to put it
to the Prime Minister.

The Far East Economic Review is probably the
most influential English language weekly publication
in the Far East and South East Asia. It has a
circulation of 15,000, and is distributed in
26 countries throughout the region. The
Financial Times recently acquired a substantial
holding in it (and have seconded a member of their
staff to it as marketing manager A recent
specimen copy of the Review (with a supplement
