Royal Visits Committee
Note for Special Meeting on 7 April 1967
A special meeting of the Royal Visits Committee
will be held in Sir Burke Trend's Room, Cabinet
Office at 3.30p.m. on 7 April.
2. The minutes of the last meeting held on
21 February are at 'A'.
3. No agenda has been received to date, but it
will be remembered that the meeting is convened
primarily to consider the advice of Her Majesty's
representatives in South East Asia about the
possibility of a visit by ne Queen and the Duke
of Edinburgh in 1968.
4. There is no other matter which requires urgent
consideration with the exception of that mentioned
in paras. 9-10 below,

The advice of the Commonwealth Office is at
Sir Michael Walker confirms that a visit by
The Queen to Malaysia would be most welcome.
Factors arising between ourselves and the Malaysians
in the context of the Defence Review are not likely
to be material. Mr. Rob is more equivocal. The
immediate prospect in Singapore appears to him to
be not unfavourable, but the Defence Review may
create difficulties. Owing however to the character
of the relationship between Malaysia and Singapore,
he considers that on balance a visit to Singapore
should be encouraged if one is made to Kuala Lumpur.
