COLONIAL SECRETARIAT

LOWER ALBERT ROAD

HONG KONG

28th January, 1967.

Dear Bunny,

In connection with the forthcoming visit of the Secretary

of State I am sure I shall be asked what is the correct pronunciation

of his surname, Bowden as in rainbow or Bowden as in bow-wow. No-one

here seems to be certain and the current B.B.C. pronunciation card

held by Radio Hong Kong doesn't help. Could you give a firm ruling?

I am sorry we shan't be seeing you too but expect you are

only too glad to be out of it. I will look in when on leave in

May unless the great visit brings on another heart attack!

your sincerely

Coli-

(C. Peel Yates)
