Mr. Gaminara
Mr. Wilmot-Morgan came to see me yesterday morning, pursuant to his letter to me at the end of last week which I think you will already have. 2. He confirmed to me that, although he could in fact seek permission to retire in June of 1968, when he will attain the age of 50, he intends to serve on until May of 1969, when he will have completed three years service as Director of Water Supplies. In
confidentially reply to my question he told me that he had written h to Mr. Wright, the Director of Public Works in Hong, Kong, to tell the latter that he has now made up his mind to apply to retire in May 1969.
: 3.
Mr. Wilmot-Morgan told me that he had also conveyed this decision to the O.D. M., and that he had
told them also that, if by the time of his retirement
from Hong Kong the 0.D. M. have a full-time post of Adviser on Drainage and Irrigation (at present it is only part-time), then he would be very interested in
it.
He told me that he had not yet been in touch with
Sir Stephen Luke; but he was going to see him this
week in order to tell Sir Stephen of his likely future
movements in case the Crown Agents were also interested in offering him an appointment (you will
remember that earlier this summer Sir Stephen Luke
expressed definite interest in this possibility).
4. I said to Mr. Wilmot-Morgan that there did not
seem to be any action that we in this Office needed
to take in this matter for the present, though I
intend to mention it orally to the Governor while he
is here this week.
5.
Mr. Wilmot-Morgan will be leaving this country on December 1st, en route back to Hong Kong. Until his departure he will be very glad to give us any help we might need over Hong Kong's water supplies. His forwarding address until his departure on leave will be
For, water suppris ple.
