Director of Public Works Mr. Michael Wright said today Monday that with resumption of water supplies from China he hoped it would be possible to provide twenty-four hour daily water supply throughout winter and spring.
He told Press conference "our storage on 1 May next year is of paramount importance. It is absolutely essential that we should have really good stock of water in our reservoirs to guard against possibility of late summer rains".
He went on to explain that given average winter run off from streams and catchwaters and use of some four-thousand five- hundred million (repeat 4.500 million) gallons from Plover Cove it should be possible to maintain full supply throughout winter and spring and still have our reservoirs with exception of Plover Cove between sixty per cent and sixty-five per cent full on 1 May next year,
This will give us storage of something over ten-thousand million (repeat 10,000 million) gallons.
Plover Cove water which is still slightly salty will be blended with fresh water and result ant salinity will not (repeat not) exceed six-hundred parts per million.
Mr. Wright concluded :
"Winter yield from streams and catchments is a matter
over which we have no (repeat no) control. If consumption is very high and winter yield exceptionally low it may be necessary to impose minor restrictions in order to ensure necessary minimum storage on 1 May"
