54. POWER TO TAKE SAMPLES. A Factory Inspector is em- powered to take for analysis samples of any material which he considers likely to cause bodily injury to any worker. The inspector must first inform the proprietor or, in his absence, some responsible person of his intention and must, if requested, divide the sample up into three parts, one for analysis by the Government Chemist, one for retention by the proprietor or his representative, and one for future comparison. It is an offence for any person to disclose the results of an analysis of any sample taken for this purpose except in the course of subsequent court proceedings.

55. DUTIES OF PERSONS EMPLOYED. Persons employed in an industrial undertaking must not interfere with anything provided for securing the health, safety, or welfare of the employees of the undertaking and must not do anything likely to endanger themselves or others.

BOILERS AND PRESSURE RECEIVERS

ORDINANCE, 1962

56. No boiler, steam receiver or air receiver, unless excluded from the application of the Boilers and Pressure Receivers Ordinance, 1962, may be operated unless it is first registered by the Registrar, who is the Commissioner of Labour. Equipment excluded by the application of the Ordinance is listed in Section 3(1) of the Ordinance and includes equipment used for domestic purposes or installed in a vessel or vehicles. After initial registration all pressure equipment to which the Ordinance applies must be operated, main- tained and periodically surveyed for safety purposes in accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance. A portable gas generator may be operated only with the permission of the Principal Surveyor of Boilers and Pressure Receivers.

57. Detailed information regarding the Ordinance and Regulations is contained in a special guide in English or Chinese which can be obtained free of charge from any office of the Labour Department. It should be noted that the provisions of the Ordinance in respect of one particular type of air receiver, namely vessels in which liquid fuel is stored and from which it is forced by compressed air, will not come into force until the day appointed for their commencement by the Governor by Proclamation in the Gazette.
