Dear Mr. Bottomley,
I am writing to ask if you would be good enough to grant an interview to Mr. Duncan Fairn and myself some time at your convenience.
Some months ago
The matter we wish to discuss relates to Hong Hong. Friends of the Quaker Meeting in Hong Kong wrote to us expressing their concern about working conditions and management-worker relations in the Colony, which they feel have contributed to the growing unrest. The conditions they describe certainly justify their desire that labour legislation should be improved and made operative.
It so happened that Mr. Fairn who was formerly Assistant Under- Secretary of State in the Prison Department of the Home Office was making a visit to the Far East and we asked him to include Hong Kong in his itinerary and to make some enquiries whilst he was there.
He was able to accede to this request and saw something at first-hand of the size of the problem.
We should be grateful if you would be willing to meet us at some convenient time.
Yours
Sincerely,
Kenneth Lee
Secretary
