dismissed workers about whom further discussions were to be held. The strikers

however rejected the proposed conditions and insisted on the reinstatement

of all workers. On the 13th December the Commissioner of Labour received a

letter from the union advising their formal withdrawal as representatives of

the strikers in negotiations with the management.

8. A direct approach to the Workers was made by the Commissioner of Labour

last week, following which a majority of the strikers agreed in writing to

ask the union to resume negotiations on their behalf. At a consultation

meeting between management and union on Sunday, 18th December the terms of a

temporary settlement were agreed in principle. A further meeting is to take

place on 20th December.
